Supporting Accessible Learning Environments and Instruction for Deaf Students

Module Description: Supporting Accessible Learning Environments and Instruction for Deaf Students provides strategies, tips, and resources that colleges can use to increase accessibility within the classroom. This module addresses challenges with traditional pedagogy that create barriers to student engagement and incidental learning for deaf students. This module will explore classroom spaces and how to support the use of accommodations, creating a community of learners through accessible environments and student engagement, and teaching strategies that will strengthen the learning experience for deaf students overall.

 

Learning Objectives: By the end of this module, participants will be able to: 

 

    • Describe the key elements of an accessible learning environment 

    • Identify instructional strategies for fostering, meaningful learning, and active engagement for deaf students.

    • Identify strategies to increase students’ ability to engage and interact with peers and faculty
