OnDemand Webinar: What are Assistive Listening Systems?

This is a rectangular image resembling a cover picture. At the top, there is the logo of NDC (National Deaf Center). In the center, the text 'What are Assistive Listening Systems?' is displayed prominently. Below the text, there are images of Sartrah Sparks and Kate Lewandowski, who are associated with the topic.

Understanding the range of systems available is important in order to effectively serve deaf people who use amplification devices on your campus. Selecting the most effective system is no easy task, and a number of factors should be taken into consideration to ensure the best possible outcome. Disability Services professionals need to know how to gather information from students to identify the best assistive listening systems for their individual needs. In this webinar, Dr. Sarah Sparks provides an introductory presentation where participants will learn the fundamentals of assistive listening devices and gain the knowledge essential to making informed decisions about accommodation options for deaf students.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Participants will be able to list at least three kinds of assistive listening technologies.
  • Participants will be able to describe at least two challenges with compatibility for assistive listening devices and personal hearing devices.
  • Participants will be able to describe at least two challenges that deaf and hard of hearing students may experience with assistive listening equipment in the classroom.

This OnDemand webinar is approved for 1 NDC Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Clock Hour.
