Real People, Real Stories: Representation of Deaf Bodies, S. Crider, B. Bachleda; June 14 – 17, 2018

Presentation Summary: This workshop is an opportunity to spotlight NDC’s mission in action, through the work of the media team. NDC aims to elicit dialogues about representations of disabled bodies, language diversity, and give examples of how to showcase intersectional stories from real deaf people, without excluding them. Participants will work together to identify and deconstruct narratives about the deaf community and media representation. Together, participants will address about the myriad ways we, as a marginalized group, embrace, validate, and work together to change the representation of intersectional deaf and disabled lives and come up with solutions on how to create more inclusive and barrier-free environments for everyone to benefit from.
