Social skills are important for interacting with others and navigating the world. Previous research has found that individuals’ social skills are related to how well they do in school and how likely they are to be employed after high school. In this study, the authors assessed the influence of social skills on postsecondary outcomes for deaf individuals through a secondary analysis of data from the second National Longitudinal Transition Study. Results showed that individuals who had well-developed social skills were much more likely to graduate from a postsecondary program. These findings support the integration of practices designed for social skill development in transition programs and planning efforts.
