Deaf students across the country are constantly being underestimated, and working against stereotypes that lower their expectations. In fact, low expectations is one of the root causes for the achievement gap between deaf and hearing people.

The Engage for Change | state (EFC) team from Idaho is known for being a model for others. Now, thanks to a partnership that includes funding from one of the nation’s biggest food companies, they are taking that to the next level as they prepare deaf youth for success after high school.
State Leaders Gather to Strategize Transition Planning and Services for Deaf Youth During COVID-19

Determined to provide vital transition services for deaf youth despite a global pandemic, 45 leaders in education and vocational rehabilitation (VR) from 25 states gathered online on May 28 for a special event, “Transition Planning in the Time of COVID-19,” organized by the Engage for Change | state team at the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes (NDC).
More Than Accommodations: Interpreting Task Force Explores Equitable Access

NDC facilitated a Postsecondary Interpreting Task Force on Jan. 14-15 to examine central questions surrounding equitable access — What does it look like? What are current standard practices, and what strategies should professionals consider to ensure deaf students are able to actively participate in all aspects of their continued education?
As VR and RCD Training Requirements Expand, National Deaf Center Provides Support to States and Agencies

On October 15-16, the state of Illinois will gather its Rehabilitation Counselors for the Deaf (RCDs) together for the first time for statewide training that will include a session on what the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes can do to help their day-to-day efforts to serve deaf youth and adults in the state.

Experts from the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes will make two presentations and participate in the poster session at the Southeastern Regional Institute on Deafness (SERID) 2019 Annual Conference in Huntsville, Alabama, on October 10-13.
39 States to Convene at NDC on June 17-19; García-Fernández Presents Keynote

The third annual Engage for Change | state convening at the National Deaf Center on June 17-19, 2019, will gather 87 leaders from 39 states to collaborate on improving deaf education and employment throughout the United States.
