Module Description:
This module provides vocational rehabilitation (VR) counselors with valuable knowledge and tools to effectively support deaf youth through Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS). Grounded in a deaf-centered and strengths-based approach, the content highlights how culturally and linguistically accessible Pre-ETS can empower deaf students to lead their transition journeys. Participants will explore how to recognize and build upon the unique assets, aspirations, and communication needs of deaf youth. The module also addresses the importance of dismantling systemic barriers—including those related to communication access and implicit bias—and emphasizes the power of collaborative partnerships with schools, families, community organizations, and deaf professionals. VR counselors will leave with actionable strategies to create inclusive, affirming pathways to postsecondary success and employment for deaf youth.
