What Are Digital Badges?

NDC open badges are here! Open badges are verifiable credentials earned by participation in and completion of NDC sponsored activities. Badges  are a visual representation of participant learning journeys, accomplishments, and mastery; and serve as documentation for engagement in online learning, webinars, and targeted activities. Badges are transferable from NDC to  personal and professional online profiles. See what badges are currently available here. We are just getting started!

Learners will earn one badge per activity completed. Badges reflect participation, knowledge, skills and abilities gained from specific activities. Motivational badges may also be earned to show progression, achieving milestones, accumulating experience, and rewards for completing learning pathways. Learners may collect badges by choosing their own learning pathway or by electing to follow a pathway recommended by NDC.

Introducing NDC Clock Hours!

The National Deaf Center (NDC) provides supports and services to a range of professionals working with deaf people across postsecondary settings. To meet the high demand and align our offerings with a wider range of professionals, NDC has adopted standards established by the U.S. Department of Education for awarding continuing education units and will offer verification of ‘clock hours’ for  learning in the form of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Clock Hours.

Earning and Transferring CPE Clock Hours

Starting January 2023, participants who complete all required components of NDC sponsored activities will receive verification of completion of the activity and the number of clock hours earned. Clock hours are awarded in a 1:1 ratio – 1 hour of engagement is 1 clock hour. Clock hours are noted on the description page of the open badge earned for that activity.

Clock hours are transferable, however, acceptance and use of the  is up to the discretion of each certifying body – not NDC. For this reason, it is strongly advised that individuals should work with their appropriate certifying body in advance for approval.

Numerical values "18" for "Deaf" and "31" for "All" are marked on the bars. The background is green with a dotted white pattern, adding a textured look.
