When deciding which auxiliary aid or service is appropriate it’s best to know (changed) the deaf individual. Not all communication methods work for all deaf and hard of hearing people. It is important to consult with the individual to determine what constitutes “effective communication” for him or her.
Also, the type of aid or service necessary depends on the length and complexity of the communication as well as the format. Professionals should be cautious about making assumptions based only on documentation, (for example) a student’s audiogram.
