How do you communicate with people?
If they don’t know sign language, then I will write or use my phone to text. Sometimes I can read lips, but I emphasize sometimes. I’m not as good at it as some other deaf people.

A downside of being in the United States is most Americans are not comfortable or proficient with gesturing. I will attempt to gesture once or twice, then have to resort to writing.

Ever since the year 2000, technology has improved. For example, devices now have an audio feature where the text populates the screen as a person speaks.

Be aware that there’s many, many different ways to communicate. Some can talk, some sign, and some cue, and some have hearing aids, some don’t. Some have cochlear implants, there’s a variety of things.
