Video Description:
Kriston Pumphrey, a brown/tan skinned deaf biracial male with hair combed to the side and a salt and pepper beard, sits in a chair then begins signing in ASL.
Speech:
When I am with other Deaf people, it’s a thrill to be among them because of the ease of language and the ability to communicate freely.
But I always feel like, in order to be a part of that group of shared language and shared culture, I must put that identity first.
Everything else comes second, third, or fourth. Those other parts of myself are suppressed because I’m supposed to identify as Deaf first.
Video Description:
As Kriston fades, a teal circle with lettering overlaid appears: “The More You Know. Intersectional Identities matter.”
