Calling all deaf students!

With the recent nationwide switch to online learning, college students are faced with sudden changes and new situations impacting the quality of access to their education. These situations can be frustrating and overwhelming.

The National Deaf Center of Postsecondary Outcomes (NDC) has assembled a live panel of deaf undergraduate and graduate students to discuss their online learning experiences and tips for strengthening access and self-care during this stressful time. During the panel, students are invited to participate and share their own online learning experiences.

This live panel aims to provide a safe space for students to gather and connect during these turbulent times. Social connection and support is even more important during this time of social distancing. Topics include, but are not limited to, self-care, accommodations, connecting with others, and tools for online learning. This is your opportunity to learn about your peers’ experiences of online learning and share your own. We are stronger together!

Joining us on our panel are:

  • Lydia Kopp, Undergraduate student, Gallaudet University
  • Claire Ryan, Graduate student, The University of Texas at Austin
  • Genelle Sanders, Graduate student, The University of Texas at Austin
  • Precious Schwartz, Undergraduate student, Texas State University

The live panel will occur in Zoom on Thursday, April 9 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. CDT and include discussion between the panelists and opportunities for interaction. The panel will include time for students to ask questions and discuss with an opportunity to follow up with each other. This event will be conducted in ASL with English interpretation and captioning. For additional access requests email: help@nationaldeafcenter.org

We hope you join us for this chance to discuss with and support other deaf students like you!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

The image shows a composite design with two main sections. On the left, a grayscale side view of a person wearing glasses and looking towards a computer screen, mostly obscured by a textured white overlay. This side is relatively blurred, focusing attention on the right side of the image. The right section features a clear, detailed view of a computer screen displaying a statistical bar chart. The chart is composed of two vertical bars—one teal and the other black—indicating a comparison between two groups, labeled "Deaf" and "All." Numerical values "18" for "Deaf" and "31" for "All" are marked on the bars. The background is green with a dotted white pattern, adding a textured look. A small NDC icon is visible at the lower left corner.
