Join us on April 29 for a live online discussion about interpreting services, featuring a panel of experts and NDC’s in-depth resources. The discussion will begin at 2 p.m. central time, on Zoom. Learn Best Practices for Hiring and Working with Interpreters Interpreting makes communication easier for everyone in a variety of settings, including schools, healthcare, workplaces, and many others. But, the wide breadth of interpreting services and the diversity of deaf people can present a challenge — How does a professional or organization find the right interpreter for the situation? In this discussion, you’ll learn about:

Experts Share Their Experiences and Insights With decades of experience, the panelists will share their stories and answer questions about the varied field of interpreting.

• Alicia Booth has been a sign language interpreter for 20 years and founded Designated Interpreters, LLC, which provides niched, customized captioning and interpreting for deaf and hard of hearing medical students and professionals in healthcare. Alicia’s favorite quote is: “There is always a solution but we might need to create it together!”
• Jermaine Williams is the schedule coordinator for Deaf Action Center in Dallas, Texas. Coming from a family of five generations of Deafness, Jermaine learned the importance of giving back to a community that has given so much to him.
• Julia Kennedy is a Deaf student at Hampton University and Gallaudet University who has cerebral palsy. A blogger and public speaker, she is the first totally deaf student at Hampton, an HBCU, and wants to share her experiences with others who have similar challenges.

Deaf students, DSS professionals, educators, and administrators are all invited to participate, learn from each other, and create more accessible campuses. The room will open 5 minutes prior to the event start time. American Sign Language interpreters and real-time captioning will be provided for the panel.
