CAPED 2024 Conference

Event Date: October 27, 2024

The National Deaf Center had a vibrant presence at the CAPED 2024 Convention, held at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, CA. The conference brought together disability and postsecondary education professionals to discuss innovative strategies for fostering equity and inclusion.

From October 27–29, NDC presenters led impactful sessions that sparked meaningful discussions:

  • Sunday, October 27: Strategizing for Systems Change in Supporting Deaf Students (Pre-Conference)
    Presenters: Latoya Dixon, Lore Kinast (Lead), Kate Lewandowski, Vanessa Molina.
  • Monday, October 28: Introduction to Speech-to-Text Services for Deaf Students
    Presenters: Latoya Dixon (Lead), Kate Lewandowski.
  • Tuesday, October 29: Strengthening Inclusive Experiences for Deaf Students at Your College
    Presenters: Lore Kinast (Lead), Vanessa Molina.

Attendees gained practical tools and strategies to improve access for deaf students in postsecondary settings, from speech-to-text services to systemic changes that promote inclusivity.
